Edinson Oidor - Cauca Inzá , Colombia
In Colombia's Cauca department lies Inzá, also called La Tierra Adentro. It's about a two-hour drive from Popayán and La Plata, but mudslides often make it hard to reach. On clear days, you can see the Nevado del Huila volcano. The Paez river flows east, linking Cauca and Huila. Coffee is mainly grown above 1750 masl, especially at 1900 masl, with Caturra being the most common variety.
Asorcafe was started in 2004 by ten coffee farmers who were tired of low prices from buyers. They now lead their region and offer members support with subsidies for home economy, education, training, and healthcare. Edinson Oidor has been growing coffee on finca Buenos Aires since the late 1990s, cultivating Caturra and Colombia varieties on his two hectares. The harvest season varies, with this year’s crop coming from January.
Our tasting notes: rich and complex; flavors of brown butter, hibiscus, and sugarcane create a comforting cup.
